1. MICAJAH3 PENNINGTON, JR. (MICAJAH2, BENAJAH1) was born December 13, 1763 in Wilkes Co., NC, and died Aft. 1850 in Harlan Co., KY?.

NOTE: There is no wife listed for Micajah, Jr. for a reason.  The wives who have been associated with him in the past have been disproven.  Cynthia Correy married a William Jones and is still alive in 1850 with William Jones as her husband.  A Cynthia Williams married a William Jones, but it is believed that she married Micajah Pennington III, Micajah, Jr.'s son.  Nancy Baker has been thought to have also been married to Micajah, Jr.  However, she is also considered to be a wife of Micajah III and dies before 1822.  Micajah Pennington, Jr.'s wife is alive in the 1810-1840 census listings.  She died sometime after 1840...so we will have to be satisfied for now with a unknown spouse for Micajah, Jr.

THE SPARKS QUARTERLY, March 1994, Whole No. 165, p. 4274 states:

" Nancy Sparks, daughter of James Sparks, was born about 1794,probably in North Carolina, although her birthplace was given as Virginiaon the 1860 census of Johnson County, Kentucky. She married JoshuaPennington in 1815 in Lee County, Virginia. He was born about 1790 inVirginia. It seems quite probable that Joshua and Nancy followed herfather to eastern Kentucky where they settled in that part of FloydCounty which became a part of Johnson County in 1843. It was there that Nancy died on March 15, 1878. According to her death record, she was 87years old.

"In all probability, Joshua and Nancy (Sparks) Pennington, had eight children, or perhaps more. We have been able to make positive identification of only four of them, but have included three others in the following list whom we believe were probably theirs. (Here provides 7 names and info for which see notes under respective names.)

William Pennington was born July 25, 1859 in the stae of MO and departed this life March 8, 1940, at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 12 days. He was married to Eliza Tucker, May 27, 1877, who preceded him in death, March 22, 1922. To this union were born five children, two of whom survive, Mrs. S. E. Culey, Bruner, MO., and John Pennington of Carthage, MO.

Other survivors include then grandchildren, thriteen living great grandchildren and numbers of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. he was converted early in life and lived a Christian life.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 10, Rev. Joe Carr. Burial was in the Union Chapel cemetery under the direction of the Spart Undertaking co., Rathbun and Chaffin.

Retired Farmer Dies at Carthage

Carthage, Mo. Sept. 7, James M. Pennington, 74 years old, a retired farmer, died at 6:05 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, 102 River Street, following a three weeks' illness. He moved here four years ago.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Sallie Ann Pennington; two daughters, Mrs. Julie Mills of Rogersville, Mo., and Mrs. Tildy Taylor of Kansas City; six sons, Albert pennington of Holmes Park, Mo., Josh Pennington of Hickman Mill, MO., thomas Pennington of Carthage and Sam, John and Mike Pennington , at home; a brother, W. M. Pennington of Bruner, Mo.; 29 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral plans are incomplete. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

As per Ulmer Funeral Home Records, he lived 103 River St. Carthage, born Mar. 9, 1862 Christian Co. MO, died 9 Sept. 1936 and buried Oak Hill Cem.
